Martyr is a heavy metal band from Utrecht that has existed since 1982. During its existence a set of demo cassettes were released, as well as a number of long players. The general public first became acquainted with Martyr in 1985, when the song " En Masse (Stand Or Die) " appeared on the collective album " Metal Massacre VI " of the legendary American label Metal Blade . Other greats on this record included Possessed , Hallow's Eve, Dark Angel, The Obsessed, Hirax, Hades and Nasty Savage . ​​ ​​The debut album " For The Universe " from the same year is still considered a classic in heavy metal circles. For example, the leading website " Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives " wrote the following about this album: "Martyr's songwriting is vastly superior to most of its competitors". In 2014, the group was honored by the " Dutch Steel (80's Metal From The Netherlands) " collector for Martyr's contribution to Dutch heavy metal history. E.e.a. the then mayor of Utrecht, Jan van Zanen , did not miss either, he sent the group a personal letter in early 2018 to thank Martyr for their ambassadorship for the city. ​​ ​​The group frequently performs at home and abroad, as a headliner or as a support act for a better-known act within the heavy metal spectrum (for example as support of ex- Iron Maiden singers Paul Di'Anno and Blaze Bayley, Trivium, Iced Earth, Manilla Road , Lizzy Borden, Raven and Saxon ). The absolute highlights of Martyr's career so far have been their 3 tours in Japan , which featured frenzied crowds. Tommy Gibbons is currently the lead guitarist in Farewell to Fear and the guitarist for the American Idol Finalist Wade Cota! In previous experiences, Tommy was the guitarist in Tantric and FLAW. Tommy has toured the US extensively and has created his own fan base with personal interactions and live performances that people do not forget! He is endorsed by Bad Boy Guitars, Mosh Pit Army Clothing, Swiss Picks and Pruvit. Tommy joined Farewell to Fear in 2019 and performed on Chris Jericho's Rock and Wrestlin Rager at Sea Cruise out to the Bahamas with the band in January, 2020.  In the summer of 2020 Tommy decided to launch a solo career to have music with his own personal stamp. On October 2, 2020 THRASHBACK RECORDS will be releasing the CD/DVD Deluxe Edition reissue “Killing Time: Thrashed From The Vault”. This is not a mere compilation, but an aural and visual document of when Thrash and Death Metal ruled the South Florida music scene. Originally released in 1992 as "Unsigned 3: Killing Time" (Stryder Records/Conquest Music Group), this was the final release in the labels "Unsigned" series that was dedicated to South Florida acts, and the only volume dedicated exclusively to South Florida's thrash/speed/death metal scene. The series was the brainchild of local studio owner Gary Stryder, who’s GLED Recording Studioswas at the time the “go to” facility for many local acts to commit their music to tape, and with this volume it sure was, as all of the albums original tracks were recorded “live” to 2-track DAT (Digital Audio Tape). On the tracks where vocals could not be properly isolated, the stereo recording was then dumped to 1” analog tape and the vocals were then recorded and mixed to the music. This revamped and remastered edition of "Killing Time" features nine of the twelve original tracks trimmed the fat, so to speak) and three bonus tracks (marked by an *) that keep the albums theme in tact. "Killing Time" features such notables as Miami’s Solstice (who would sign to Germany’s Steamhammer Records a year later), West Palm Beach’s Raped Ape (later Paingod, who released an album for Century Media Records, and featured guitarist J.P. Soars who later played with Malevolent Creation & Divine Empire, and drummer J.C. Dwyer who would later join Pro-Pain), Ft. Lauderdale’s Amboog-A-Lard (who’s original guitarist and cofounder Jeordie White would later join Marilyn Manson as Twiggie Ramierez), Boca Raton’s Fatal Sin, Ft. Lauderdale’s Malicious Damage, Boca Raton’s Royal Anguish, Miami’s Kryptic Kurse, and Boca Raton’s Sinful Lust (who’s guitarist Adam Dearborn would later form the band Deadstar Assembly). This special release also includes a bonus DVD, an 120 minute time capsule featuring live footage from Amboog-A-Lard, Elysium, Fatal Sin, Final Prophecy, Raped Ape, Royal Anguish, Sinful Lust, and Solstice. This 2020 reissue has been wonderfully remastered by Rob Colwell at Bombworks Sound from the original master tapes, features all new cover art by Sidjimbe Art Studios, and includes a 12-page booklet with band photo’s, archival show fliers, and “Thrast Facts” on each of the bands. This special 28th anniversary release is limited to a pressing of 300 units world wide and is the 4th release in our “Florida Metal Archives Series”.
